TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

Location: Lynchburg & Appomattox, VA
Schedule: Full time, year-round, including evenings, weekends and some holidays during tech, opening weeks and events
Compensation: $55,000-$62,000 annually, based on experience; plus paid time off.
Start Date: January 4, 2027

About the role
Wolfbane Productions, a professional nonprofit theatre celebrating its 20th season in 2027, is hiring a full-time Technical Director. We produce six mainstage shows a year at the Wolf Den in downtown Lynchburg and outdoors at Wolf PAC in Appomattox, plus special events, a youth theatre camp and venue rentals.

The Technical Director runs our lighting and audio departments and supports our build team on set construction. You’ll work with a new Allen & Heath SQ6 digital console and stage box and 24 channels of Shure SLXD+ digital wireless.

What you’ll do

  • Program and run lighting and audio consoles, playback software, speaker placement, and wireless mics

  • Carry out lighting and sound designs, including hang, focus and cueing

  • Maintain and repair all lighting, audio and projection equipment

  • Support the Master Carpenter on construction, load-in, load-out and strike

  • Handle technical setup for events, the youth camp, rentals and outdoor shows

  • Lead the Master Electrician, a technical assistant and run crew

What you bring

  • 3+ years as a technical director, assistant technical director, or head of lighting or audio

  • Hands-on skill with lighting consoles (such as ETC Eos), digital audio consoles (Allen & Heath SQ a plus) and QLab

  • Experience managing wireless microphones for musicals

  • Solid carpentry and safe rigging skills

  • Experience with outdoor event power, lighting and sound

  • Strong leadership, with a track record of training and running a crew

  • Excellent organization, with the ability to keep several shows on schedule at once

Requirements

  • Able to lift 50 lb regularly

  • Local housing and reliable transportation between Lynchburg and Appomattox (housing is not provided)

  • Available for evenings, weekends and some holidays during tech, opening weeks and events
